چکیده
ABSTRACTf Overdense, metal-rich regions, shielded from stellar radiation might remain neutral throughout reionization and produce metal as well 21 cm absorption lines. Simultaneous metals can complement each other probes of underlying gas properties. We use Aurora, a suite high-resolution radiation-hydrodynamical simulations galaxy formation, to investigate the occurrence such ‘aligned’ absorbers. calculate spectra for cm, O I, C II, Si Fe II. find velocity windows with at least one classify aligned absorbers into two categories: ‘aligned cospatial absorbers’ but not absorbers’. While originate overdense structures be used trace properties, are due peculiar effects. The incidence is redshift dependent, it dictated by interplay between enrichment, shows peak z ≈ 8 disappear towards end because lack an ambient forest, associated pockets that found lower redshift. mock observations set sightlines next generation telescopes like ELT SKA1-LOW, finding given sufficiently bright background quasar, these will able detect both types reionization.

The Theory and Simulation of the 21-cm Background from the Epoch of Reionization
The redshifted 21-cm line of distant neutral H atoms provides a probe of the cosmic “dark ages” and the epoch of reionization (“EOR”) which ended them, within the first billion years of cosmic time. The radio continuum produced by this redshifted line can be seen in absorption or emission against the cosmic microwave background (“CMB”) at meterwaves, yielding information about the thermal and i...
متن کاملStatistical features of 21-cm emission from the epoch between reionization and Gunn-Peterson transparency
We investigate the 21-cm emission from the epoch between reionization zr and Gunn-Peterson transparency zgp. According to the lognormal model of the thermal history around reionization, hydrogen clouds in zr > z > zgp are hot, and a predominant part of baryonic gas is ionized, but still opaque to Lyα photons. Therefore, 21-cm emission is a distinctive characteristic of this epoch. We show that ...
متن کاملImproving Foreground Subtraction in Statistical Observations of 21 Cm Emission from the Epoch of Reionization
Statistical observations of the Epoch of Reionization using the 21 cm line of neutral hydrogen have the potential to revolutionize our understanding of structure formation and the first luminous objects. However, these observations are complicated by a host of strong foreground sources. Several foreground removal techniques have been proposed in the literature, and it has been assumed that thes...
متن کاملToward Empirical Constraints on the Global Redshifted 21 Cm Brightness Temperature during the Epoch of Reionization
Preliminary results are presented from a simple, single-antenna experiment designed to measure the all-sky radio spectrum between 100 and 200 MHz. The system used an internal comparison-switching scheme to reduce non-smooth instrumental contaminants in the measured spectrum to 75 mK. From the observations, we place an initial upper limit of 450 mK on the relative brightness temperature of the r...
متن کاملThe multi - frequency angular power spectrum of the epoch of reionization 21 cm signal
Observations of redshifted 21cm radiation from neutral hydrogen (HI) at high redshifts is an important future probe of reionization. We consider the Multi-frequency Angular Power Spectrum (MAPS) to quantify the statistics of the HI signal as a joint function of the angular multipole l and frequency separation ∆ν. The signal at two different frequencies is expected to get decorrelated as ∆ν is i...
